Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Welcome to the home page of Trinity Mar Thoma Church, Houston, Texas. Our church is located at 5810 Almeda Genoa Road, Houston, Texas 77048, between Highway 288 and Mykawa Road.

Trinity Mar Thoma Church was established in 1974 with less than 50 families. In April of that year, His Lordship, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Episcopa, visited Houston and conducted a prayer meeting. During this meeting, Thirumeni encouraged the Marthomites in Houston to continue gathering regularly for worship and prayer, marking the humble beginnings of our parish.

The first Holy Communion service was celebrated on September 29, 1974, by Rev. T.I. Joseph. In September 1975, Rev. T.J. Thomas, who was pursuing higher studies in Dallas, began conducting services in Houston once a month. By October 19, 1975, our congregation had grown to 28 families, and a Managing Committee was elected. During the general body meeting on January 25, 1976, the congregation was officially named “Mar Thoma Syrian Church of India, Houston,” with membership increasing to 43 families.

In March 1978, the Episcopal Synod officially recognized us as a congregation. By 1982, the church acquired five acres of land at 5810 Almeda Genoa Road. On August 29, 1982, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Mar Athanasius Suffragan Metropolitan, our Diocesan Bishop, laid the foundation stone for the church building. The church was completed and dedicated on July 14, 1984, at which time Thirumeni renamed it “Trinity Mar Thoma Church, Houston.”

Today, Trinity Mar Thoma Church stands as the first Mar Thoma Church built in North America. Over the years, our membership has grown to over 400 families.

The contributions of our dedicated leaders, clergy, and members—past and present—have shaped this parish into a vibrant community of faith. We are blessed to have three clergies from our parish, one of whom was born and raised here. Our journey is also a tribute to our founding members and clergy who are no longer with us but remain forever in our hearts.

With 50 years of history behind us, we continue to grow in faith and fellowship, offering various spiritual and community services. Through worship, mission projects, and outreach initiatives, we strive to glorify God and serve as a beacon of His love.

We invite you to be a part of this journey, united under the theme of our Golden Jubilee Year:
“50 Years Under His Providence: Remember, Rejoice, Revive.”

May the Lord Almighty continue to guide us in the years to come.
